Twinkie™ Petits Fours

Serves: 4

Description

I created this recipe in honor of my dad, using his favorite treats—Twinkies and chocolate. They are so good, and no one believes me when I tell them what they are.

–Barbara Canfield, Bakersfield, California

Ingredients

2 Twinkies
4 ounces milk or dark chocolate (or 1 cup chips), chopped
Whipped cream
4 maraschino cherries, halved

Directions

Freeze the Twinkies for 1 hour, until firm. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.

Slice each Twinkie crosswise into 3⁄4-inch pieces. Place the chocolate in a small, microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high power (100%) for 30 seconds. (If you’re using both milk and dark chocolates, melt them in separate bowls.) Stir, then continue to microwave for 15 seconds at a time, stirring frequently, until smooth.

Dip each piece of Twinkie into the melted chocolate, then place on the prepared baking sheet. Decorate the tops of some of the petits fours with swirls or drizzles of the chocolate. Place in the freezer for at least 5 minutes, until firm.

Top the undercoated petits fours with a dollop of whipped cream and a cherry half. Serve immediately.
